I have a 2007 Nissan xTerra. All in all this is a very good vehicle. I don’t have many complaints about this truck and this 2007 gem is still rattle free! I’ve gone through a few clutches though and that ain’t a pretty to fix. I have also had the rear leaf spring break on me which was bizarre. But all in all, great truck!
So this latest issue was a bit of a mystery. My tail gate latch started to lock intermittently. I would have to cycle the power lock 5 or 10 times to get the door to open. After some quick searches on-line I had discovered that this is quite a common occurrence for this model. Most solutions were to lubricate. In my case I kept the lock and latch in place and used spray lube. This, however did not do anything for the issue.
I removed the mechanism from the door and discovered right away that this issue was the fault of loose hardware. The two screws holding the locking solenoid to the latch body were loose. After tightening these screws and replacing the lock and latch, by tail gate now operates without problem.
Perhaps if you are reading this, you have a similar issue. Remove the lock and latch and have a look. My video investigation is below. Enjoy!
